Story

Gwent Wildlife Trust has a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase Bridewell Common, near Magor Marsh Nature Reserve. Help protect these 81.45 acres of ancient marshland on the wildlife rich Gwent Levels by sponsoring me.

Your donation will contribute to our £250,000 appeal target - we're on the final push to achieve this in time to buy the land!

You'll know I’m a keen runner but it’ll be a real challenge for me to fit so many miles in around work, parenting and moving house this month. I really want to make a big personal contribution to this important appeal though, I feel it’s an opportunity of a lifetime. Your support, and the knowledge that I’m directly contributing to safe-guarding an invaluable corner of Gwent for wildlife will spur me on in my challenge.

We are challenging staff, volunteers and the public to raise money by completing the 900 mile Bridewell Reen-lay together. The Gwent Levels has an abundance of wildlife, thanks to a network of water ditches known locally as reens that stretch from Cardiff to Chepstow. These reens give the Gwent Levels its unique character and are home to a rich diversity of wildlife including birds such as little egret and reed bunting, mammals like otter and water vole plus a variety of rare insects and plant life. The meadows also act as a major carbon store in the fight against climate change. The reen network is 900 miles long so if you complete a sponsored walk, run or cycle you can contribute to the target 900 miles!
