Story
I started running 8 months ago, I felt that if I could run cancer couldn't catch up with me. Following my surgery to remove my left kidney along with it's tumour in March 2013 I had a few hiccups during recovery. My decision to begin running helped me cope with so much, from pain management to keeping a healthy mindset.
The James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer gave me tremendous help and support when I was still coming to terms with the C word. One of the worst battles I faced was finding out more about kidney cancer, it's not something you want to Google. The JWF gave the advice and knowledge I needed when I needed it most.
I kept a journal while battling through kidney cancer which I transferred to a blog a while later. My story can be found here anunfashionablecancer.blogspot.co.uk
Since joining the 'Mono Kidney Club' I have encountered many inspiring people whether fighting their own battles or supporting someone else through theirs. One of these is Jon Birchall who is currently taking on his own personal challenge 'Facing Up To Kidney Cancer' by taking on a 5,000 mile motorcycle ride around mainland Britain. Jon's story and details of his journey can be found here http://facingup2kidneycancer.org/
It is thanks to people like Jon that much needed awareness and funds for kidney cancer research and patient support can be found. For me he is a reason to keep fighting for this disease and keep running and this 10K will be my way of FU2KC
Please help me to help raise support for Jon on his inspiring journey, all funds raised will go to the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer, the UK leading specialist kidney cancer charity.
Thank You.
