We are a voluntary support group belonging to a scheme that provides a service to support hearing impaired people with an NHS hearing aid. WHAT DO WE DO? The tasks of the volunteer will include: - 1. Make a simple check to ascertain that the hearing aid is functioning. 2. Check the batteries are functioning replacing where necessary, instructing the clients at the same time. 3. Check that clients are familiar with the controls of their hearing aid. 4. Check that the clients know how to fit their earmould, giving instructions where necessary. 5. Clean and retube the earmould where necessary.

Story

This is not  ‘Debi’s Story’.

This is ‘Team Will’s Story’ :)

Half Marathon Coastal Trek - Thursday 22nd February 2018 👣

'Team Will' (where there’s a ‘Will’ there’s a way!): Debi Devine, Laura Chowdhury, Rachel Owens, Adele Mayer & Mother Lumb ~ (who are not the most athletic of people!!) 🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️

Challenge: Half marathon trek around The Great Orme and along the promenade to Old Colwyn. 👣

One gloriously sunny day in 2017, whilst feeling fleetingly empowered after a gentle stroll (!!) up a very steep hill, we found ourselves debating whether it might be a good idea to stretch the walk a little and raise funds for our local Audiology Volunteer Drop-in Service at the same time.

It seemed like a good idea back then! (Well to one of us at least! 😊)

And just before we had a chance to change our minds two more adventurous souls asked to join us. So then we were five!

And now it's February and the 13.1 mile trek looms!

Why are we raising funds for the Audiology Volunteer Drop-in Service?

If you know anyone with a hearing loss you’ll know how isolating it can be at times ~ especially if they experience problems with their hearing aids and are unable to get to their local hospital for assistance.

So recently we have expanded our Volunteer Service to include Drop-in clinics in addition to our existing home visiting service.

The volunteer led Drop-in Service provides a friendly, non-establishment presence for hearing aid users and their families, friends & carers, who often find it difficult to access Audiology services. The service also provides  practical and social support within a relaxed and informal environment.

We now need to raise funds to allow us to hire more community spaces to enable a broader geographical reach across the Central North Wales area.

Our volunteers are just brilliant ~ so proud of all of them!

(And my fellow trekkers are just brilliant too! None of them have walked this distance before ~ and I haven’t since my ‘adventure’! Believe me it will be a huge challenge for all of us! Debi x)

So ........ please do consider showing your support!  We are immensely grateful for every donation.

Many thanks for taking the time to read our story and for your support.
