We Did It!!!

On March 21st we successfully completed our challenge to climb the Sydney Harbour bridge we had a fantastic time, perfect weather and felt a great sence of achievement when we reached the top to take in the awesome view of Sydney Harbour. I would like to thank everyone who generously donated to our cause, the funding will enable Breast friends Solihull to continue its practical and emotional support for women who have undergone breast cancer. We managed to successfully launch our sky lantern in memory of our dear friend Amanda who we dedicated our climb to.

I am climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge with a group of ladies and some family members to raise awareness of breast Cancer and much needed funding for our local support group Breasts Friends Solihull. This is a self funded trip so all of the sponsorship money from the bridge climb will go directly to Breast friends to help them continue providing practical and emotional help to ladies who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The help includes purchase of wigs and prosthesis, domestic help for patients undergoing treatment, childcare for mothers wherever there is a need, loan of equipment such as electronically operated reclining chairs, gardening or heavy work, complimenatry therapies, relaxation day at a local spa, hardship fund and confidentail counselling and listening services provided by volunteer members. More recently Breast friends Solihull have funded medical equipment such as Sentinal Node probes to both National Health and private hospitals in the local area.

I was diagnosed with Breast cancer 5 years ago and Breast friends Solihull helped me by giving me funding towards a wig after I lost my hair through chemotherapy, and provided a course of reiki treatment. I became involved with the committee after organising a number of fundraisers to give something back to Breast Friends Solihull for their help and encouragement during my difficult time.

Our Chairwoman Lynn Bullock had the original idea to climb the Sydney Harbour bridge and contacted the owners of the bridge climb to help with our fundraiser, they were very pleased to offer us a media climb which will help publicise the work Breast Friends Solihull do and help with awareness of breast cancer, and raise vital funding through sponsorship of ladies who are climbing the bridge.

Breasts friends meet on the second Wednesday of every month at the SIMTR conference centre Solihull . Interesting and informal talks are given by a variety of speakers, including many of our local medical professionals, coffee and chat round off these enjoyable evenings. The meetings enable members to form new friendships and support networks in a fun and relaxed environment.

Breast Friends want to dedicate this climb to our dear friend Amanda Lowe who was really looking forward to joining us on the trip but sadly lost her battle with Breast Cancer in Sept.2009. We will all miss her and plan to release a Chinese Lantern in her memory at the side of the Sydney Harbour bridge.

Breast friends Solihull its in its 10th year its members are growing all of the time and we need help to continue supporting local ladies so heres to the next 10 years!!
