Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 26th of August I'll be celebrating my 50th birthday. So many friends have asked me what I'm doing or what I want for my birthday and honesly we're so blessed there's nothing I need but there is something that would really make me happy and I'm hoping my friends and family will help me achieve this important goal.
For a few years we've supported a charity in the Philippines called Kalayaan Community Ministries. They work with people living in poverty in a country that doesn't have the support systems we enjoy here in the UK. You'll find below a list of things they do but for my birthday what I'd really like is to raise money towards their scholarship programme to allow a young person to get a further education (college or university) that would otherwise be impossible for them. This is their way to break the cycle of deprevation, to support their families and to have a hope filled future.
Their degrees differ slightly but on average it costs £1000 to put them through 1 year of university. This covers tution fee, uniforms, stationary, daily travel and simple lunch for a whole year. I'm setting a target of £500 and hoping together we can at least cover a full semester.
2 The Nations is a registered UK charity and passes on 100% of all monies raised to Kalayaan Community Ministries. KCM is also a registered charity in the Philippines.

Part of the vision we feel God gave us was to build a team from within their own community who would be empowered to lead.
"Kalayaan" means freedom in tagalog. Our logo is a symbol of metamorphosis.
We believe and are seeing that individuals, families and communities can be free from the strongholds of even the most extreme financial poverty.
Where they live does not have to define them. With Christ in the equation we believe that no story is too hopeless and that families can be the katalyst of transformation for their own communities and beyond.
All long term initiatives are now lead by residents from the community.
