Story
Thanks for so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
NHCC was set up by John and Kathy Tucker in 2006 to provide a safe and caring home for orphaned children with HIV. NHCC provides medications for the children and focuses on their social, nutritional and educational needs. Without this unique place, many of these lovable children might have died.
NHCC strives to give all the children an education that best matches their talents and abilities. NHCC International School was set up in 2013. Classes are taught in English by an international faculty. The Khmer-speaking faculty teaches some of our maths and science courses as well as the Khmer language classes. Children are also fortunate to participate in enrichment classes in traditional Khmer dance and music and in woodworking.
The NHCC education fund also underwrites tuition for the children pursuing higher education studies. The cost is $500 per semester for a child at university and $300 per semester for a child at vocational school.
As most of you know, my sister Barbara passed away sadly and unexpectedly last year. Bar was a big proponent of education and worked full time and studied in order to complete her law degree. She was so supportive of the school that I thought it would be a wonderful legacy to raise money in her name for the education fund.
Please enjoy some of the following stories about our
children and their studies and see them in the gallery pictures.
Raksmey came to NHCC in 2008 and completed his studies last
year. He is a sociable and affectionate boy who enjoys cooking. He has blossomed and enjoys the new sense of responsibility since he began a three-year catering and nutrition course at Pour un Sourire D’enfant (PSE) in Phnom Penh.
Narin came to NHCC with his younger sister Sokkhon when their remaining parent died from AIDS. He is a keen student and is currently in grade 12. His goal is to go to university and study nursing. He is a caring boy who would make a wonderful nurse. He also enjoys dance and has represented NHCC in a number of international dance competitions.
Krovan is 17 years old and has been in NHCC for 8 years. She has no family to go home to on any of the Khmer holidays, but she remains a beautiful and optimistic child. She loves to speak English and will take every opportunity to practice her English speaking skills. She is a wonderful mimic and would like to go to university to study to be an English teacher.
Hour came to NHCC after her mother died when she was 5 years
old. She was separated from her 2 younger sisters and now has only her older sister. She has lived in NHCC for 11 years. She loves to travel and has studied hard to attain her dream of going to university. Last year she started studying chemistry at Phnom Penh University.
