Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and reading a bit about why we are taking part in the Bluebell walk
Together with family and close friends we are walking in memory of my daughter Jennifer who died under the care of St Christopher's in 2013 at the young age of 27.
She was diagnosed with stage 4 metasticised melignant melanoma on 29th April 2013 and sadly died just seven months later on 27th November. She had been recently married and had a 2 year old son William (you can see our story in a little more detail on some of St Christopher's marketing for the walk with a photo of William who completed the 11 mile fun walk last year in memory of his mum). She was incredibly brave throughout her illness and endured aggresive treatments in the hope that they might buy her some extra time to spend with her family and young son, but it was not to be.
She was luckily offered a bed in St Christopher's and spent the last few weeks of her life there - quite frankly, I don't know what we would have done without them. Without exception all the staff there are amazing in whatever capacity, and each and every one of them seem to instinctively know what is needed at any given time. They offered help and support not only to Jennifer but also to her family and friends. Jennifer was shown such great care, compassion and respect and was always treated as an individual, not just another patient. They were always concerned for her dignity and she was consulted every step of the way for as long as possible.
St Christopher's is simply a lifeline for those of us who unfortunately find themselves in such dire circumstances and they really need our support to be able to carry on the amazing work that they do.
