Jog/walk from Land's End to John O'Groats · 25 October 2020

We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

I am Deborah Sandercock-Pickles and I have peritoneal cancer. During Lockdown I was shielding and in a moment of madness decided to jog or walk (depending on how my body felt) virtually around the garden. I would make certain stops on route and research the area. I am a vicar, so I thought that I would contact a local church at the places I have stopped at, visit their church website/facebook page, send them an E-mail and pray for them. It has been lovely receiving so many replies. I am currently in Scotland (virtually) on the final part of my journey. When I finish I will have travelled 1150 miles which is 17250 laps around the garden - which is looking like a mud bath at the moment!

I wanted to raise money for CRUK as 1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lives. Research is the only way forward in finding a cure for different types of cancer. Unfortunately my cancer cannot be treated by surgery or radiotherapy, so I am dependent on ongoing chemotherapy. I am jogging in memory of all those who I have known who have died of cancer, particularly Don Young, Wendy, Joan, Simon, Iris and Doreen. I am also doing this for those who have undergone treatment and overcome their cancer and those who are determined not to let the cancer beat them - including myself. Stay strong!

This is also in memory of my mum and brother, who are no longer with us.

This challenge is also about saying thank you to all who have supported me in my battle against cancer over the past year and a half. You will never know how much your support has meant to me and will continue to be as I continue to fight this battle.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I would just like to thank everyone who has sponsored me so far, both online and off-line. What an amazing amount of money for Cancer Research UK but most of all thank you for your ongoing support. I have started the final part of the journey, the John O'Groats trail, a coastal walking route from Inverness to JOG, traversing shorelines, cliff tops, back lanes and footpaths of the Scottish Highlands - aka the back garden. I do have a vivid imagination though!

Once again - thank you.
