Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page

We are doing this big ride  because we love cycling and this seemed the perfect way to raise money to support others who might be going through what Debs/we went through. It finishes on Debs 50th birthday 🎂.... A day Debs never thought she would see.....

Debs being diagnosed with a very aggressive stage 3 breast cancer aged 43 was a crappy blow really. It was tough, especially for our family; especially our wonderful hubby/dad, Chris and Beth & Jamie, then aged 12 & 14.

Without supporting one another hugely in our family unit (Chris, Jamie, Beth, Debs & doggies!) ; and without the support of our wonderful community, especially Debs biking friends et al, & swim club friends  ;our family,  including our brother/uncle and his family and our wonderful parents/nan & gramps ; & 1 other very special family with 3 wonderful little people ;& fabulous support from the kids school, JMHS.. Debs/we could never have come out sane(ish) and survived to this point. We  are so very grateful that we got to realise how lucky 🍀 we were to have these guys in our  world.

Anyway, 6  surgeries later, with lots of rehab & great physiotherapy, and further surgery for a small melanoma that crept in there too! (nasty little bugger!), Debs  finds  herself back out there, working part time as a GP, enjoying the good times when they are there and trying to roll with the trickier times, including the occasional doubts and fears; Beth & all our family try and do likewise.

Throughout all this, including chemotherapy, Debs has  cycled many miles weekly.... Even managing a crash causing double fractured shoulder 2 years ago - woops! 😂.... And frequently annoying friends and Beth /Jamie/Chris  dragging them out with her 😉.. The love of being out there pedalling, often with friends or family is a huge part of keeping Debs /us well mentally and physically and this challenge represents so much to us,  for the reasons we hope we have explained.....

Cancer ruins lives, as do many severe illnesses and we  know too many who haven't made it this far..... What it has done for us is changed our outlook..... We try to look for challenge and opportunity more, but also  try more to realise the preciousness of "just being" sometimes.... Especially being with people we love and laugh with.

Thanx for reading our long spheil... Please please donate....it's a one off and Beth & Debs (we) would so appreciate it xx
