Story

I like millions around the world was saddened by the images of devastation caused by the recent earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria. I like many made a donation to charities helping with the relief effort. However after seeing the image of Mesut Hancer the father holding the lifeless hand of his young daughter Irmak buried beneath the rubble of their home I was deeply affected as a father myself.

Seeing the images of suffering and huge death toll I felt I needed to do something more to help.  Clearly the donation of money I made to UK charity Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) was not enough as the people of Turkiye and Syria will need more help in the coming weeks and months.  So I have decided in 2023 to run 10Km races around the UK in order to fundraise and help.  I will pay out of my own pocket to fund race entry and travel which will personally cost me around £500, but in doing so I hope to raise in excess of £500.

In running 10Km races I will be travelling right across the UK to run:

* London 10K Winter Run
* Brighton 10K
* Newcastle Great North Run 10K
* Manchester Great Run 10K
* Bath 2 Tunnels Railways Run 10K

As a Sikh, helping others especially the sick, needy and downtrodden is an important part of my faith - "Sarbat Ka Bhalla" : "The Welfare of All".  Over the years I have watched and been inspired by a charity which leverages this key tenent of Sikhism - Khalsa Aid.

Khalsa Aid is an international NGO with the aim to provide humanitarian aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones around the world. Khalsa Aid has a proud and fierce reputation for getting boots on the ground in disaster areas and conflict zones quickly.  Ravi Singh and his team don't rely on others to do the heavy lifting they go to the areas where the bombs are falling and where there is flood, famine and chaos.  Even a recent kidney transplant operation hasn't stopped Ravi Singh from getting onto a plane to fly to Turkiye and Syria to distribute aid and help.  That is why you can be sure that every penny you donate to my running will be used to help those that need help by Khalsa Aid.

In addition to supporting my running races I hope others too might be inspired to raise funds to help those affected by war and natural disasters around the world.
