Socks is a 7 year old Painted Dog and she has had her fifth litter this year, making her the most successful female PDC have tracked.
She has given birth to more than 40 pups out of 160 Painted Dogs in the Hwange National Park area, there are less than 800 in Zimbabwe itself. Her anti-snare collar has been replaced twice (due to severe damage) which has saved her life at least three times! 85% of dogs caught in a snare will be killed. This figures drops to 15% when anti-snare collars are fitted. They really make a difference Snares are set to catch bush meat but they also trap other animals which are left to an awful death. The collars allow the dogs to survive until the anti-poaching patrols are able to assist. Sometimes they are taken to the rehab centre until they are fit enough to hunt again.
I have been lucky enough to see these beautiful animals and the amazing work that the project does. A fantastic team of dedicated, talented people working towards their goal.
I hope that you will help me achieve my goal, many thanks
