Age UK Salford is a local independent charity that exists to improve the quality of life to all older people in Salford through the provision of support, advocacy and direct services. All donations received go towards our work with older people.

Story

Almost two years ago Steve Heap a 51 year old Engineer from Walkden was diagnosed with young onset Dementia in the form of Alzheimer’s disease.

The diagnosis was a life changing event for Steve as he always had been very active and had been employed in several responsible positions through his working life. On a day to day basis he keeps himself busy and is actively involved by attending groups organised by AGE UK Salford, Dementia Support Services, and actually helping others who are living well with dementia by volunteering as a helper at one of these groups.

On the 19th of April Steve will toe the line of the Manchester Marathon to raise vital  funds for the groups to provide activities and continued support for people who are diagnosed with this debilitating disease, but are also ‘getting on’ in a positive way with the help available to live a good life.

The Marathon is 26.2 miles long and will take around 3 ½ hours of non stop running and concentration. It is one of the most gruelling challenges the human body can undertake
