Story
I am fundraising after my mother inspired me when she ran a marathon and raised money for research for Muscular Dystrophy. Her dear friends’ family member, Kerr is one of the sweetest and strongest boys and I am lucky that I’m able to get the opportunity to voluntarily challenge my health and fitness and run my first ever Marathon after completing a Half Marathon earlier in 2022. I have given myself a challenge, but nothing compared to what this wee guy and family face
every day and many other families and people throughout the country.
Kerr is 10 and suffers from a condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Duchenne is a progressive muscle wasting disease for which there currently is no cure. The money raised from this marathon will be used to fund vital research through the Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund and help them progress their research which will hopefully lead to an effective treatment and ultimately, a cure. Kerr is still very much independent; however, this will drastically decline over the next couple of years, and he will likely come off his feet completely by the age of 12 with loss of arm function following soon after and will eventually depend on a ventilator to breathe. So please, dig deep and sponsor what you can to help give Kerr the best possible chance at having a long and independent life. I can’t do this without the generosity from friends and family behind me!
