Story
Well Cycle Thailand 2020 didn’t happen because of Covid so we transferred to Cycle Sri Lanka 2022 but that didn’t happen either because of civil unrest in Sri Lanka and now Cycle the Nile in November 2023 has been cancelled. So hopefully this is fourth time lucky for taking part in my sixth, and probably final, overseas challenge for Women V Cancer.
Most of my fundraising for this challenge is already done but the charities can use more so I will try to raise a bit more. I now have an even more personal reason for doing this as on 5th August 2022 I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer following a recall from a routine screening mammogram. At the time of writing this I am five months post surgery and six weeks post radiotherapy and feeling fit and well. My focus is now on getting fit enough to cycle in India in November. I have yet to get out on my bike this year but continued indoor cycling on my spin bike throughout treatment and in January I resumed my gym membership and go to spin classes and do gym sessions regularly. My motivation is this challenge and reading that research has shown regular exercise greatly reduces the chance of recurrence of breast cancer.
