The aim of my walk is to raise some of the £450,000 needed for Phase 2 of St Mary’s Church Project – to renew the Parish Church of Princes Risborough, particularly the new floor and improved drainage. Besides supporting St Mary's Church I am also raising money for FOCUS, the Charity I am the Chair of, which supports young families at Saunderton Lodge.
The Ridgeway has been described as one of the oldest roads. One author wrote ‘ Most roads have a beginning and an end, but the Ridgeway has neither; what is left of it , and it is a remarkable stretch for a road of such antiquity, starts nowhere and concludes in time rather than in space’. I found these words as I prepare to join 3 other members of our congregation who are also cayyying out challenging sponsored walks to raise funds for the Church Restoration Project. I am now not sure whether I should ask Dr Who for some advice as to where to start and finish!
Brenda and I have walked many stretches of the Ridgeway in the company of our dogs. I have always wanted to join up the various sections in a complete walk and so on Sunday 14 June I will start the 85 mile walk at Avebury. This coincides with the Risborough Walking Festival. I plan to do the last stage on Saturday 20 Jun (almost mid-summer’s day) and invite anyone who wishes to join me to do so. You might like to get your own sponsorship. There will be 3 points on the last stage where you can you join me to the end at: Ivinghoe Beacon: Princes Risborough ( approx 17.5 miles) leaving at 8am, Wendover (approx 11.5 miles) leaving about 1030am, Tring Railway Station (approx 4 miles) leaving about 2pm. I hope to arrive about .
