The 2nd Chance Café takes fruit and vegetables from local retailers which they would otherwise throw away because the food was at the end of its shelf live and turn them into lovely soups and smoothies to give free meals to those in Hackney who could not afford them. But it has grown into a place of belonging and friendship for homeless people, the elderly, the lonely and the isolated of the community, and most recently for those seeking a warm place because they can’t afford to heat their homes.
