Story
Depaul UK gives young people facing homelessness a hope of a brighter future, and this year we hope to give them the gift of a Christmas dinner.
Life has been difficult this year for the young people facing homelessness that Depaul UK supports in South Yorkshire.
Depaul currently supports more than 150 people in South Yorkshire. Many of these people are isolated, with very small social networks. Most of these have experienced homelessness.
In previous years, at Christmas, Depaul has hosted a party and meal for everyone to enjoy. This would ensure everyone had a warm meal and a gift to unwrap, so no-one had to be alone or hungry.
Unfortunately, last year, due to social distancing guidelines this was not possible. However, we were determined to still provide everyone a meal, and so 'Christmas for all, at home' was born. We managed to raise enough for each person to receive a £10 food voucher to buy and create their own meal. With the pandemic still here, we have decided to repeat our efforts, but are this year aiming for £20 per person.
Every year, most of us are privileged enough to be at home surrounded by friends, family and mountains of food. For the people Depaul supports, £20 and a chance to celebrate Christmas, can mean the world. For those that don't celebrate Christmas, they aren't excluded on a day when everyone is together.
If we exceed our target of £3,040, any additional money donated will go where the need is greatest to support Depaul UK’s vital work. Take a look at our website if you want to find out more about what our wonderful team do, or want to get involved: https://uk.depaulcharity.org/
