Story

St James has supported St Luke’s Hospital in Milo, southwest Tanzania, for over 30 years and currently particularly supports the work of two volunteers, Drs Hilary and Adrian Murray, now based at Milo.

Adrian works with the staff in Milo Hospital and two dispensaries to encourage, mentor, train and support them, especially in developing the hospital into a centre of excellence for maternity services.  Hilary works in health education and removing the stigma of HIV/AIDS.

In 2019 we contributed to the purchase of portable ultrasound equipment. Last year we helped to fund a biochemical analyser which has enabled the hospital to carry out a variety of basic blood and hormone tests. Dr Sandagila has now provided us with a breakdown of costs for the completion of the new paediatric ward at the hospital, ranging from beds and blankets to baby warmers for
newborns.

The project aims to make the ward more child-friendly with paintings and a play area, as well as creating a high dependency unit. It would be excellent if we could help purchase some of these essential items and support the health of mothers and children in this very needy part of the world.
