VSO brings people together to address marginalisation and poverty. I am volunteering and raising funds for Voluntary Service Overseas. I will be spending 3 months in Cambodia; working with the local community to help youth securing a sustainable livelihood.
While the poverty rate in Cambodia has more than halved between 2004 and 2011, the vast majority of families who escaped poverty did so by a small margin. One in five Cambodians still live on less than $1.25 and millions more are vulnerable to even the slightest change in circumstances.
Cambodia has suffered from a turbulent past, which saw the brutal Khmer Rouge regime, in power in the late 1970’s, claim the lives of up to 2 million people. As a consequence of the years of unrest and civil war, Cambodia’s population of 14 million people is young - around 43% are under 15 years old, and 60% are under 30.
Many Cambodian youth face considerable challenges in becoming active and independent members of their societies. Obtaining decent and safe employment or starting a business that can be sustained is very difficult for many young people
Please join me as I take a stand against poverty and support VSO's uniquely effective approach that reached over 1.5 million people last year alone. Donation is easy and quick through JustGiving; all the money fundraised goes straight to VSO.
Please do contact me if have any questions or if you can help me fundraise money!
Thank you
