This 15th century chest almost certainly held precious cargo, perfect for someone with a heart of gold.

Story

Originally from the Church of St Margaret de Westwick on St Benedicts Street, Norwich, this extraordinary object is made of high-quality Baltic oak, its elaborate carved front and heavy lock suggesting its creation at the hands of a skilled craftsman from Lower Saxony (in north-western Germany). The perfect gift for a proud Norwichian, this chest is a symbol of Norwichs rich medieval history and strong international links; a city with more standing medieval churches than any other city north of the Alps.
