I must have been either crazy or delusional, but in a fit of over-enthusiasm, egged on by younger and fitter running mates from our wonderful Streatham Mums Running Club, I registered for the Great North Run and was "lucky" enough to win a balloted place. I have chosen to run this for the British Heart Foundation in support of the great work they are doing to educate us that simple lifestyle choices can greatly reduce our chances of heart disease and premature death.
As most of you know, my sister and I lost our Dad early to heart disease. Dad loved nothing more than enjoying a good meal washed down with a bottle of wine or two. Moderation was not a word in his dictionary and despite regular visits to the gym, good living eventually took its toll at the young age of 68. We later discovered that his heart disease may also have been caused by genetic factors, a fact that prompted me to make some major changes to my lifestyle. Now 3 stone lighter and significantly fitter, not only have I significantly reduced my chances of heart disease, but I feel so much better and look great in a pair of size 12 jeans:)
I would love it if you could help support the great work that BHF are doing by sponsoring me. I will thank you by doing all I can to get around the 13.1 mile course as gracefully as possible!!
