Story
When I was in my twenties, my hair started thinning. From the day I noticed, I became obsessed with losing my hair: I visited specialists, I tried many remedies, but the result was scarce.
My frustration kept growing and growing; every time I was looking at my hair in the mirror the only thing I could see was my problem, how much my hair was thinning and how bad was the situation on that day.
It took me time and a lot of mental effort to realise that my hair loss was not to be too much worried about and I eventually made peace with my hair, starting to love it again.
If that was the impact that hair loss had on a grown up woman like me, what is the impact that it might have on a younger girl going through difficult times? The way we see ourselves in the mirror affects our self-confidence and love for ourselves. And as everyone says -- how can you love others if you don’t love yourself first?
So here's the deal: I'll cut my full head of hair and donate it to to Little Princess Trust. It will be used to create a wig for a child or young person who suffered hair loss due to cancer treatments or other conditions.
To spice things up I'll also have my head shaved in front of my colleagues in Amazon Cork.
You might have seen a woman with a shaved head, but you never saw me!
My goal is to raise 650€ (550£ circa). That's the amount Little Princess Trust is spending to have the wig made and fit on a child. Thanks to your donation my hair can bring a bit of joy in the lives of a young person and the people around them.
I chose Little Princess Trust as they operate in UK and Ireland where they collaborate with Irish Cancer Society. Here what they say of themselves:
When a child loses their hair to cancer or another condition, we'll be there with a free, real hair wig to help restore their confidence and identity. We won't stop until the research that we fund ends childhood cancer forever. Promise. Please visit us at www.littleprincesses.org.uk to find out how you can help us give young people back what cancer takes away. The Trust relies solely on the efforts of enthusiastic community fundraisers. We receive no formal funding. Please help to raise money for us so that we can help more families.
