Story

This year has been difficult for us all - it’s changed our lives, and our children’s lives too. The NSPCC has heard from children feeling the pressure on their mental health, and others who have felt trapped in unsafe homes without the support of school or friends. While many of us see Christmas as a time of celebration, it also puts additional pressure on families and children who are struggling. With continued fallout from the coronavirus, this year may be even harder. When home isn’t a safe place, Christmas can be the worst time of the year. When school and other supports close over Christmas period, many young people can feel helpless, scared and alone. But NSPCC and Childline are there.

I have therefore decided to set myself the Christmas ‘Callometre’ Challenge. By running 10k every day (250km in total) of the advent calendar, with the last run being a magical special one running in a Santa Claus outfit at midnight on Xmas Eve/ Day.  For those who remember, I did this challenge 10 years ago (picture attached), 10 years younger 😬 therefore, I might need some help this time so I’m aiming to have one friend running with me for each day of the advent.

I have set my fundraising target at £1250 because for every kilometre I run, I hope to raise money for the cost of one call (£5) to Childline or NSPCC. Please support me to give these children someone to talk to by donating to my just giving page or if donating money isn’t possible for you, dig out your trainers & set yourself a goal & join #TeamChapman to run one 10k with me in December. 🎅 🎄

21/11 - Due to the incredible support I have received  so far, I have increased my target to £2500. Thank you for all your support.

01/12 - Overwhelming support received so I have increased my target to £5000. If together, we raise this amount, it will cover the cost of calls into Childline on Christmas Day & Boxing Day & whilst is is devastating to think there are so many calls on these days, its so important we help ensure the NSPCC are there  to support those vulnerable children.

11/12 Once again, friends , family & people that don’t know me but are in awe of my challenge have been so generous & sponsored me. Together we have raised enough money to cover the cost of calls on Christmas Day & Boxing Day. So I have Increased my target again with 150km still to go to £6000 to cover the cost of Christmas Eve calls too. Thank you to all your continued support it is giving a real boost to my legs & will make a massive contribution to the NSPCC.
