Fundraising For Equipment

Story

Zee is one of our neighbours and we can see his Mum Ellie’s daily struggles with his current wheelchair.  We want to raise money for a more suitable buggy that isn’t provided by the NHS.

Zee has a complex multi system disorder and uses a wheelchair everyday to be able to get out and about. Having  new buggy would be life changing for him and open up more opportunities for him. His current wheelchair is supportive but due to its size and weight, it limits his activities. Even walking to the end of the road causes problems, due to a lack of dropped kerbs. Currently his wheelchair can’t tip safely to achieve this so he has to be pushed in the road. Having a chair which can fold will also mean he can go on day trips and travel in cars with his friends. Zee wears nappies and finding suitable changing facilities for a disabled person is almost impossible. The options available include laying Zee on a dirty toilet floor or not changing him and leaving him soiled. The buggy we are trying to help raise money floor also lays completely flat for changing him out and about. Something we all take for granted until it affects us.

Zee’s parents have signed up with the charity tree of hope. The money we raise is held by the charity in a pot for Zee. He can apply for equipment which is signed off by his OT and health team, then paid for directly by tree of hope. Any extra money raised can stay in his “pot” till he’s 25 years old so can be used for equipment he needs at a later date.
