UPDATE: the abseil is now going ahead on Saturday 26 September and we will be taking part. The Pituitary Foundation's fundraising efforts remain severely impacted and they will be very grateful for your generosity.
We were planning to take part in the Avon Gorge Abseil to raise money for the Pituitary Foundation. The Pituitary Foundation's mission is:
"From the moment someone is diagnosed with a pituitary condition through treatment and beyond, we’re here providing support, information and a community. We empower people with a pituitary condition and work towards greater awareness and understanding of pituitary disease."
There is some information about pituitary conditions on their website: https://pituitary.org.uk/information/pituitary-conditions/
Unfortunately the abseil has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 epidemic. However, the Pituitary Foundation are seeing increased demand for their services, and as fundraising events are cancelled, a drop in income:
"Demand for our services has gone through the roof and income
has been affected massively due to events being cancelled or postponed. Our charity is stretched to the limit at the moment with staff and volunteer working tirelessly to provide support to very anxious and worried patient group."
Whilst we can't abseil the Avon Gorge at the moment, we do believe that the real aim of raising money for the Pituitary Foundation is not only more important than ever, but also very urgent for the charity. We are therefore proposing a horizontal abseil along the lines of the Monty Python sketch in the cover photo. It looks like this will have to take place in the privacy of our own gardens! Of course once new dates are available we will do the real thing!
We, and the Pituitary Foundation are very grateful for any support you are able to provide.
