DLL UK to DLL Eindhoven then run the half marathan · 9 October 2015

We help over 500 young people a year overcome the effects of depression, anxiety, family breakdown, bullying or having been the victim of abuse, including sexual abuse. We are a local charity that has served Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Rickmansworth and Borehamwood for the past 40 years.

Story

DLL is a unique place to work where we regularly get opportunities to connect with colleagues and partners from all over the world. Last year while enjoying the fabulous DLL hospitality at the Eindhoven Marathon I decided the UK team should do something that displays our true values.

So here we are 11 months later about to depart on a 180 mile cycle followed by a 12k run in Eindhoven. I was surprised and delighted that so many members, and one customer, were mad enough to volunteer to join me. This is all about raising money so please support our team challenge with your donations

The Team:

Ken Cotter: It was my idea so whatever happens I will pretend to enjoy it. I was a keen cyclist, however I currently operate a free taxi service for my children at weekends, so any real preparation is out of the question. When its cold and wet, after eight hours on the bike, your donations will keep us all going so please take the time to make a donation.

Karolina Adamczyk: Karolina Adamczyk has been with DLL for 7 years. Working as an International Business Development Manager, Karolina has limited time to train but that doesn't discourage her from taking on a challenge! This will be Karolina’s second DLL-sponsored charity cycle ride of 2015, the first one being Tour de Vale, 100 km route. Karolina’s motivation for the challenge is to raise as much as possible for DLL’s chosen charities of the year… so prepare your credit cards friends and family! Karolina was the last to sign up, allowing herself only month to train for the event. This is going to be Karolina’s longest ever ride, so donate and motivate her to pedal all the way to Eindhoven

Nicky Foster:  I've worked with DLL as a customer and partner for 15 years. As a sponsor of the Eindhoven marathon I was keen to get a place and run in the DLL half marathon, but when they suggested that I do a cycle ride before, I thought why not ? That's until I realised it was 100 miles Watford-Harwich, then 80 miles Hook of Holland-Eindhoven...then a half marathon ! As a keen sportswoman who runs a few times a week, I was enthusiastic, but I don't do much cycling and had never got on a road bike until last week (which I fell off when I forgot I was still clipped into the pedals !). I am very excited to take part in this sporting challenge and for such a great local cause which DLL supports but despite Holland being so flat, I think the cycle might be an uphill challenge for me!

Roman Przybys: The reason is it’s a  ride of a lifetime, something to tell me people over a drink in the pub!  Including the  sense of accomplishment when we reach Eindhoven, whilst working as team and giving back to charity.

David Lindsay:  After several years of running marathons I was looking for a sport I could do sitting down so cycling is perfect! I will no doubt be the oldest team member so hopefully wont slow us down too much. We really want to raise as much cash as possible for these charities as they all provide help and assistance to those less fortunate than ourselves, please help me do that and give me motivation to reach Eindhoven

Victor Wixey: I have never done anything like this at DLL and indeed haven’t ridden a bike for 10+ years. It's a fantastic personal challenge whilst raising money for some worthy causes. I hope my two little boys will see and understand when they are older to put themselves out there and challenge themselves whilst helping others. Picture of my two little trainers and motivators attached. No pain no gain – no comment on the pain to my backside cycling for that long…

Christoph Auerbach: Easy exercise because not much to say: Austrian nomad trying new means of transport to save the company travel costs. You could also argue I'm trying to mile up from half ironman to full.
Biking history actually in mountain biking, so I'm moving quite blue eyed into this challenge (hence also my rather naive consideration to complete it with a Boris Bike).

Richard Soulsby: Richard doesn’t know this yet but he is the groups navigator, leading from the front he will ensure we don’t get lost or fall behind schedule. A regular cyclist Richard will be our engine and satellite navigation system….please lend him your support as he will be placed under enormous pressure by the rest of the group.
