Story
I work in healthcare and I'm taking up this challenge to raise awareness but also to support this charity which focuses on providing a solution to solve burnout and reduce suicide rates in the medical profession.
Just to get an idea, the ONS revealed that between 2011 and 2015, 430 health professionals died by suicide in England. Amongst them were two good friends of mine.
The stygma around mental health issues in healthcare is well known and stops many healthcare workers from sharing their concerns - this charity provides mental health support to all medical professionals across the UK through confidential, facilitated support groups - apart from the Doctors in Distress group there are also Nurses and Allied Healthcare workers, long Covid and shielding support groups, Frontline Nurses and Allied Healthcare workers support groups, Paramedics support groups and a Black Medics forum. I feel that helping this charity would mean improving access to much needed support as well as hopefully help giving back hope to those that might have lost it and help them see again the infinite value of their life.
