Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Five years ago, I lost my dad Keith to early onset dementia. He was just 65 years old, a special soul taken too soon.

On 21st July this year my dad would be celebrating his 70th birthday - probably with a Vindaloo and a pint of lager. I've chosen to mark the occasion by doing something I know my dad would be proud of - raising money for Dementia UK.

On Thursday 21st July, I plan to swim 70 lengths of a 20 metre pool (1400 metres). It is twice the distance I've swam in a very long time, so it will be a challenge, but hopefully an achievable one. I've also set myself the goal of completing it in less than 50 minutes.

I'm aiming to raise £230 for Dementia UK which could pay for a brand new nurse for a whole day, offering life-changing support to families facing dementia.

Whether you were lucky enough to know my dad or not, if you would like to sponsor me to raise money for this worthy cause, I would be very grateful.

Thank you

Kathryn (or Katie as my dad called me)
