Most of you know, Emer and I love running. Every year, for the past 9 years we have competed in a race of some kind - starting at 10k's and in the last few years, running in Marathons around the world.
However, the one marathon we have always wanted to run in, London, we have never managed to secure a place. Until late last year when through mutual contacts, we met the Director of the Royal Hospital of Neuro-disability. This hospital must raise over £3 million to continue providing special, life changing services to 220 patients. These services include Music Therapy, Leisure and Family Services, and Assistive Technologies among many others - which make patients feel an improvement in quality of life they can share with family and friends.
Inspired by the story of this charity, and also the money we raised for the Three Peaks, we took up an invitation to run for them. It's a big challenge and target - double what we raised for the Three Peaks - but with your kind and very generous support, we know we can make it!
In addition to raising money for this great charity, we are also challenging ourselves to improve our performance. We've run a number of marathon races now, but have never run "sub 4" - i.e. less than 4 hours. As this is the race we have always wanted to run, we are currently training to beat this marker.
Over the coming weeks we will also be competing in a variety of training events - including 2 Half Marathons in Hampton Court (10th Feb) and Woking.(10th March). So we will be sending out messages in advance to ask for your support at these events as well - in order that we hit our target!
Many thanks for your support and helping us run a race we have always wanted to, for a very worthy cause that looks after so many people.
