Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 9 June I will be cycling “The Dragon Ride”: 216km with 3,300m of ascent (that’s 135 miles and about 10,000ft) through the wild Welsh hills of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.
Some of you will remember that last year I finished in a spectacular and rather sudden fashion, after an hour, and ended up A&E. This time I’ll be taking it a little more carefully!
This year I am looking to raise money for a small charity run by a good friend who devotes much of her time and energy to helping impoverished communities in the mountains of Nepal and Peru. She has been running treks in those countries for the last twenty years or so (I met her in the Himalayas) and has seen the real problems of poor medical facilities, illiteracy, and lack of electricity. The charity has now provided over 2,000 very simple but effective solar lights to rural communities (which limits the very damaging and expensive use of kerosene lamps), has set up a mountain schools programme, opened a medical centre in Peru, and facilitated the supply of medical equipment and supplies to many communities, much of it very basic and which we take for granted, but these things are very very valuable to those people. If you would like to know more please go to http://www.lighteducationdevelopment.org/page02.html. This is a great little charity doing some excellent work with very little resource and anything we raise will go to doing good things.
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated, and make my pain in the mountains a little more worthwhile.
Thank you!
Dominic
