Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On October 22nd this year, I will be 50 years old. I didn't want it to pass without doing something special and so I decided to try and raise £1000 for every year of my life for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Throughout 2018 I set myself and achieved the following (mostly) 50-themed cycling-based challenges
- cycle more than 2500 miles in the year
- commute by bike at least 50 times
- ride 50 miles off-road
- inspire 50 children to get on their bikes
- cycle 186 miles in one day
- cycle more than 100 km 5 times
- inspire others to fundraise with me
It has been a brilliant year and I have had so much fun doing it. The highlights have to be, in no particular order;
my "Made to Move for Macmillan" day at MediaCity UK, Salford Quays where we got over 90 children riding bikes on skills courses with the help of British Cycling & Urban Vision ride coaches
Cycling 50 Cotswold villages in a day with my wife's cousin Stephen and 3 of his friends
cycling all 186 miles (including the Peak district hills) of the Cheshire Cycleway in one day
and the best, most life-affirming thing I have ever done- my trip to the Italian Alps. Over 2 days, we climbed over 2000 feet, covered 120 miles and rode up 4 super category climbs including the mighty Stelvio pass with its iconic 48 switchbacks (I rode another 38 to get over 50!).
And so as I hit 50 years of age please consider supporting me by donating whatever you can afford to Macmillan so that my half-century means a whole lot more than just a number.
Thank You.
