Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Donna - This Charity is really close to my heart, as they have always been there to help and support me when I have needed someone to listen, refer me to a local support group or to guide me in the right direction. I have learnt so much from them over the past few years with new treatments available, therapies and advice on how to combat the horrible side effects caused by the cancer or even by the treatments itself. I would like to take the opportunity to give them something in return, so they can continue to help others like they've helped us as a family.

When Fred (my Step-dad) was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer, it was like a bomb had gone off in our house. I just remember this horrible silence, shortly followed by lots of tears - it was such a shock! However he's one of the strongest people I know and I knew he wasn't going to give up! He battled through with sheer determination and strength, I don't know where he found it but I'm glad he did. I think my Mum's support (and nagging) may have a little bit to do with it!! :)

Soon enough his fighting paid off and he went into remission - best feeling ever, I was soooooooo proud of him and more importantly he was proud of himself!

Unfortunately last year they realised that Cancer was back and they would have to fight this poxy thing all over again. However, they have caught it in the early stages and the Hormone Treatment is working well. This ongoing treatment basically starves the cancer and stabilises his PSA count. The side effects from this treatment are not very nice, with regular injections, mood swings and hot flushes. However with this treatment, it means he's not having any evasive procedures and he can live a normal life - which he does well (always causing mayhem somewhere!! haha)

Personally its horrible to see him go through this again, however his cheeky smile and pure determination to not let this win says it all really!! What can I say, you never know what the future has in store but at the moment it looks bright!  =)

Alan - I think this is a good a good cause and its close to home.

Climbing a mountain a is a good representation of the struggle that sufferers have to face on a day to day basis and also shows it can be beaten with courage, determination and with the support of those around you.

This climb is for Fred and all the other families that have been through this or are going through the same ordeal.

Every little helps, please don't feel like you have to sponsor a large amount but please feel free to tell your friends and family about our about our expedition!!

Keep up to date with our training blog - wish us luck because we are going to need it!!
