On the 22nd April 2018, my colleague Greg and I will be running the Southampton Marathon! 26.2miles!! That’s a bloody long way! We are raising money for Ronald McDonald House Charities and here is why........
When I was 18 weeks pregnant, we discovered that our little unborn baby had a heart condition...
On the 3rd October 2015, our son Oliver was born. He was a VERY poorly little boy and stayed in Southampton General Hospital for 6weeks and 1day, (with a quick weekend stay at QA) undergoing 3 operations on his tiny little heart in that time.
We lived some 45 minutes to an hour away from the hospital (and some in traffic!!)
We were first introduced to “The Ronald McDonald House Southampton” when we went for yet another scan. This instantly reassured us that we’d be able to stay with our baby boy when he was born, without the added worry of the financial strain of finding hotels to be close to him (or the worry of sleeping in the car!!)
From 3rd October 2015 until 15th November 2015 we stayed in the Ronald House in Southampton. The house (hotel) is literally on the grounds of the hospital. What a life line it was. We were able to make home cooked meals in their large kitchen and family room. We had a bit of normality being able to cook for ourselves and eat normal healthy meals at a table (not just by a hospital bed!) We were able to sit on a lovely sofa and watch the tv if we wanted and talk to other families that understood our situation. We could wash and dry our clothes and have a comfy bed to rest our heads after some extremely stressful days. I cried myself to sleep on one of their beds on many occasions.
Without Charities like these, families couldn’t be together at the most critical and vital times. I am so grateful we got to be so close to our boy when we had no choice but to leave him with nurses and doctors to take care of him.
Not enough people know of what this charity does for families. Thank you Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Thank you to our family and friends for donating. Love to you all xx
