Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My dad is called Roger and he is 68 years young, he was finally diagnosed with Huntingtons Disease in March 2008. HD is a hereditary disease and every child born to a parent carrying the faulty huntington's gene has a 50% risk of inheriting the condition.
Dad is one of 7 children, 3 have been diagnosed with HD, which we think was inherited from their father, but he passed away before we knew it was present in our genes. HD is a progressive disorder, symptons include involuntry movements, speech and swallowing problems, poor mobility and dementia. Dads life has changed dramatically in the last few years, we lost mum to cancer and now HD is taking hold over him, he can no longer eat solid food as he chokes and now uses a wheelchair most of the time. This is where the Huntington's Disease Association come in, they provide families with the help, support and hope for the future. Currently there is no cure for this invasive disease, so this is where i do my part a skydive.
As anyone who knows me will know i am petrified of heights and aeroplanes to the point that the thought of jumping out off a plane makes me feel physically sick but my dream is that one day a cure will be found and this is my incentive. I'm one off the lucky ones i havn't inherited the HD gene which means i can not pass it on to my two girls, but i know how different my life and my girls life could have been. So please please can you support me in my quest.
