Story
Doorstep Carols is returning for a third year to bring friends and neighbours together singing carols in the street on Wednesday, December 14th from 6pm.
The carols are played on participating radio stations across the country. It's easy to join in! Download the words from doorstepcarols.co.uk and tune in to sing along. If your local radio station isn't doing it this year, tune in to BBC Radio Shropshire which will be broadcasting the 'epicentre' event from Shrewsbury town square this year.
The beauty of Doorstep Carols is you can make it whatever you want. Sing in the street with neighbours, or in the pub, on the village green, at a work party or school event - it's up to you! Firepits, fairy lights and mulled wine all help create a memorable evening.
There have been some wonderful events linked to Doorstep Carols over the past three years - from massed caroling in Trafalgar Square to singing under Concorde in Bristol and choirs outside cathedrals and hospitals.
Many care homes are getting involved this year too, with residents practising the carols in advance, ready to sing along on the night. One home is even getting real penguins to join in this year!
This year, we will be raising money for The Alzheimer’s Society, because we have seen how singing together can help trigger powerful memories and create special moments when ordinary words are missing.
The charity aims to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
If you can, please make a donation to the charity before you sing on December 14th.
