Story

On Saturday 7th August 2021, Doreen Nichol was involved in a horrific car/pedestrian road accident. She sustained several injuries including having to have half her right leg amputated. The GNAA as well as NWAS paramedics attended. With the help of these amazing people (and several people who stopped to help) she is still very much with us today.

It has been a long, slow journey for Doreen but she has never given up. She has had countless hours of physio and hospital appointments, and has her very own prosthetic leg. Learning to walk again has been a challenge in itself but one the family is all behind her with.

For those of you who know Doreen, know how much she loved her morning walk around Talkin Tarn. So to mark the anniversary of her accident and to raise money for GNAA, she has decided to walk one lap of Talkin Tarn.

On Sunday 7th August 2022, Doreen will set off from Alex Boathouse, Talkin Tarn at 12pm and walk anticlockwise to finish at the tearooms.

Family and friends will be motivating her on the day. Please feel free to pop along and show your support. All we ask is that everyone wears a splash of green for GNAA :)

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to 1,640 call outs last year* alone, via their helicopter and emergency response vehicles, where they performed treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death.

About the charity

The Great North Air Ambulance Service keeps families together by saving lives. We provide critical care to the people of the North East, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.
