Hackney Half Marathon 2022 · 22 May 2022 ·

The Ceasefire Centre for Civilian Rights is an international initiative to develop civilian-led monitoring of violations of international humanitarian law or human rights; to secure accountability and reparation for those violations; and to develop the practice of civilian rights.

Story

I’ve decided to try running a half marathon! I would be so grateful if you could help me to raise £200 for Ceasefire Centre for Civilian Rights. They do really important work, defending the rights of civilians in conflict zones and seeking justice for victims of war crimes. You can find out more about them below. The race is on 22 May which is quite soon and I’ll be honest, I have not done much training yet… so I’m hoping some donations will give me the motivation I need!

It is difficult to comprehend what it would be like to live in a war zone. Imagine feeling unsafe in your own home, facing constant violations of your rights, and living in fear of violence and death. In today’s wars, civilian homes and towns have become the battlefield. Civilian lives are treated as collateral damage and their basic human rights are ignored. They are rendered undeserving of justice. Civilians are often understood to be the principal victims of war but are rarely recognised as the holders of rights.

Ceasefire believes it does not have to be this way. They refuse to allow war crimes against civilians to go unnoticed and are working to empower civilian voices in war zones across the Middle East and North Africa. Ceasefire works with civilians on the ground in these areas to report violations and seek justice and reparation.

Your support will help some of the most vulnerable people living in life threatening situations to claim their rights and have their voices heard. Over 4000 civilians have already taken part in Ceasefire’s programmes, and with your donation, they can continue to advance the movement for civilian rights across the world. Thank you!
