A big hello to everyone who has taken the time to visit my 'Dosh for Dystrophy' page.
In April 2011 I will be running the Virgin London Marathon for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign - a leading UK charity focussing on muscle disease. These terribly aggressive diseases cause muscles to waste and weaken making it hard for those affected to do even the simplest task. The conditions don't just effect the muscles in the arms and legs but the heart and respiratory muscles too and unfortunately there are no cures.
I have chosen to run for this charity because my brother Matthew, 17, suffers from the worst form of the disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Matthew has been wheelchair bound since the age of 12 and underwent major surgery in 2008, yet despite this he is an incredibly happy, positive and highly intelligent young man who is the heart and soul of the family. Without the hard work of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign we wouldn't have had the treatments available to improve and potentially extend my brother's quality of life and for this it is a great honour to be running for a charity that is so close to mine and my family's hearts.
Thank you all so much for reading and any spare pennies you have would be greatly appreciated so that we can raise lots of money for a truly fantastic charity! I promise that I will do my very best for you all on the big day!!!
Many thanks and lots and lots of love, katie xxxxx
