Captain's Ice-Bucket Challenge · 14 August 2015

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In September last year our Lady Captain at Rowlands Castle Golf Club, Yvonne de Mellow did the ice-bucket challenge and in keeping with it’s tradition, she in turn challenged the Club Captain, the Secretary Manager and myself as Vice-Captain to take the challenge too.  I was in Scotland at the time staying with my brother at the family farm when the video of Yvonne and the challenge came through. My brother; the ginger haired cheeky one with a wicked sense of humour, the one with MS, enquired if it would be more painful with my shirt off and when I said “yes” he duly agreed to sponsor me on that basis.

At the next Golf Club Management Meeting I related this to the committee members. The then President said he would sponsor me to keep my shirt on and the Club Captain and Secretary/Manager ‘delegated’ the challenge to me. So at 7pm on 14th August at RCGC I will take up the Challenge in aid of The Multiple Sclerosis Society. MS is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK.  It is an inflammatory disease which attacks the insulating covers of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, damaging and limiting the patient’s physical and mental capabilities. Once diagnosed, MS stays with you for life, but treatments and specialists can help to manage the condition and its symptoms. So a worthwhile cause and any donation, large or small, would be much appreciated and of course if you Gift Aid it, attracts a 25% percent uplift from the Taxman.

Thanks again
