Story
Jerome is a 6 year old boy who lives in Manchester.
He is a very happy, fun loving, sociable boy who is full of life and loves the outdoors. Jerome was born with Cerebral Palsy, and his quality of life is severely affected by limited mobility and painful muscle spasms.
Jerome needs SDR surgery to achieve a better quality and pain free life.
Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) surgery
is a procedure that treats muscle spasticity caused by abnormal
communication among the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. It
corrects muscle spasticity by cutting the nerve rootlets in the spinal
cord that are sending abnormal signals to the muscles.
Currently the NHS fund children's Cerebral Palsy surgeries for cases with Gross Motor Function Classification System of levels 2 and 3
(GMFCS - a five-level classification system that focuses on the voluntary movements of children with cerebral palsy -CP)
Jerome is currently a level 4 therefore outside the bracket of CP surgical cases funded by the NHS. In this case Jerome needs sponsorship for his SDR Surgery at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The surgery will cost approximately £20,000 which is our first target as this will allow Jerome to gain an appointment date for the surgery. Post surgery Jerome will need 2 years in recovery and intensive therapy which is estimated to cost £40,000 per year. This brings us to the target total of £100,000.
We need your help with sponsoring Jeromes SDR surgery, every little helps. We can always count on the power of unified influence to change a persons life for the better. It takes a community to get a child's wish to walk come true. Be a Genie in Giving, make Jeromes wish to walk come true.
Thank you .
