Downley Dynamos Defibrillator Appeal · 12 June 2017

The Community Heartbeat Trust helps communities undertake defibrillator projects taking into account the needs for the right equipment, the right support, the right adherence to liabilities and governance, community awareness and training programmes, and help with the fund raising and long term support for these projects. As the leading community defibrillator charity in the UK, we have become recognised by ambulance services, councils, community groups and sports governing bodies as the 'gold standard', having set many of the standards now being adopted by other organisations. We live, breath and are hugely passionate about community defibrillation in all its forms, and seek always to offer a holistic and objective advice to communities. We believe a defibrillator is for LIFE and not just for Christmas, and these medical devices should be available to save lives. But they are just that, a medical device, and must be treated with respect. A good project is not about just a defibrillator in the community, but one that forms part of a resilient process, addressing needs, and fully backed by Governance. www.communityheartbeat.org.uk

Story

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page.

Downley Dynamos is a not-for-profit Junior Football Club, nestled on the edge of the Chiltern Hills overlooking High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

The club caters for children of all ages from U6s right through to U16s and we promote a ‘football for all’ ethos, providing a safe and fun environment for more than 300 children of all footballing abilities to enjoy the ‘beautiful game’.

Each age group has management and coaching staff affiliated to the FA and most will have completed their FA Level 1 Coaching Badges or higher, which includes Safeguarding Children and Emergency First Aid.

When it comes to first aid, we are trained to deal with most day to day occurrences, but without a doubt the one we never wish to face is a cardiac arrest. Sadly however these incidents do occur on a regular basis up and down the country.

If it ever happens at one of our core training and match locations we want to make sure that we are as prepared as we can be!

An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrest of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which seeks to stop the arrest, allowing the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm.

These units are registered with the local ambulance service (in our case South Central) who will first attempt to triage the situation on the phone via 999. If they determine that a defibrillator unit can be used they will use their GPS systems to see if one can be located within a 500m radius of the incident and if it can they will issue an unlock code and walk the caller through it's location/use.

As you can imagine these units aren't cheap, so we've teamed up with The Community Heartbeat Trust to try to raise the money for the installation of defibrillator units at each or our two sports pavilions at The Common in Downley and The Pedestal Playing Fields in West Wycombe.

The cost of each unit, fully installed externally in a code-locked weatherproof steel case with links to the local ambulance service and an inclusive local community awareness session is £1,995.00

ANYTHING you can give, however large or small, will be a huge help to our appeal. At some point in the future, your donation could help us to save a child's life. Please do give generously and we'll keep you all updated with our progress.

Thank you for reading....and donating.
