Story
Whether it's been being supported in delivering Girls Active programmes, transforming our innovative PE curriculum, being asked to be a founding member of the Well-Schools movement or providing access to our amazing athlete mentor Alistair Patrick-Heselton, the YST and Shenley Brook End school have a long history of working together to provide the very best opportunities for high quality PE & school sport.
At the recent YST Conference in Telford, Mr Tierney and I were taking in the usual inspirational workshops and keynotes as we noticed the concrete cow symbol at a stall, highlighting #TeamYST's involvement in our local marathon weekend. Despite us both spending our time teaching PE far more that we are able to practice ourselves right now within minutes we had signed right up. A great opportunity for us to practice what we preach and hopefully inspire our families to do the same next year!
There is a very good reason why we both jumped at the chance to support the YST's mission...
There is a crisis in young people's wellbeing, with rising numbers reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression, alongside a decline in levels of physical activity.
- One in four year six pupils are obese.
- 2.4 million young people are active for less than 30 minutes per day
- 53% of young people believe their social wellbeing has suffered since the Covid pandemic
- 83% of UK parents believe children are spending too much time online and not enough time with each other
- Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to access and understand the benefits of sport and play.
We are fundraising to support the vital work being delivered to help to reclaim play and sport in children's lives. Together we can build a brighter future where every child enjoys the life-changing benefits of play and sport.Youth Sport Trust empower young people and equip educators to transform lives through sport and play to improve physical and mental wellbeing.
