The Omara Trust offers a personal connection between you and those being medically trained in a low income setting. We find individuals with a heart for serving their communities, and support their training and living expenses, allowing them to gain their medical qualifications, and continue to provide high level medical care to their own people.
Doctors training to be consultants in Kenya (as in many African countries) are not paid a salary, and have to meet their own training costs. Therefore, those who have completed medical school either use family wealth or must save for many years (while continuing to work as a junior doctor) in order to fund their consultant training. As a result there is a real shortage of consultants, and many are so indebted on completion of training that they feel unable to serve the poorer regions of Kenya where consultant salaries are lower.
Training is provided by certified consultants from the UK or USA over a 6 year training period.
