Asha has been transforming lives in the slums of Delhi since 1988. Asha was founded by Dr Kiran Martin, a paediatrician, who observed first-hand, the devastating conditions in which the urban poor live while responding to a cholera outbreak in one of Delhi’s slums. Currently, Asha works in over 90 slums across Delhi, serving over 900,000 slum dwellers. Asha has developed a strong track record in improving the lives of the urban poor and as a result, has won the respect and support of government ministers in India and around the world. Asha believes that the key to tackling the poverty cycles lies in educated, healthy, empowered individuals who are able to transcend their personal circumstances and transform their own lives, and those of their families and ultimately their communities. Asha achieves this by enabling people to transform their healthcare, education, environment and finances of their own community. Thank you so much for your kind donation. Every penny transforms lives in the slums of Delhi. Asha is working relentlessly towards bringing holistic development in the urban slums of Delhi. We’ll ensure that whatever you have donated will be put to the best possible use and give even more people hope for a better future. Words can't express how thankful we are for your support.

Story

In October 2023 I'm going to work in a slum community (Kalkaji) in Delhi for 2 weeks with a group of 6th Form pupils and some staff from Methodist College, Belfast.

I will be providing medical cover for the team but will also be doing humanitarian work for the charity Asha.

I have never run a marathon before so need your encouragement and support! I’ve been training hard since January and it’s forced me to be very disciplined! Your donations are much appreciated and every penny will go directly to Asha, transforming the lives of slum-dwelling communities in India.

The MCB-Asha Link

  • 20 years ago Methody set up a link with Asha, a leading health and development NGO that works with approx. 900,000 people living in over 90 slum communities in Delhi, India.  This strong connection has enabled many 6th form students to travel to one particular slum, Kalkaji, to help the people living there.  MCB pupils have benefitted greatly from this experience.  We aim to raise funds to help Asha with its vital work and hope that you will consider helping with this.
