Story
Swimming has become my main form of keeping sane over the last few years, and it would be good to have something to aim for to make my endless splashing around mean something.
The charity, Aspire, support people who have been paralysed through spinal cord injury - helping them get the right equipment to enable them to continue to live life with as much independence as possible. It would be great to be able to help them out a little.
The swim starts near Stokes Bay to Ryde. The distance is three miles but can be up to six; depending on tides, currents, boats and wind. I’m aiming to swim it in around two hours, but it’s hard to say, with the conditions varying so much. Each swimmer gets a Kayaker to paddle alongside them, keeping them going in the right direction and ensuring that death remains unlikely(ish). I’ve helped out as a kayaker before but never as a swimmer. I’m super excited by the idea of it, but I know asking anyone for cash right now seems a little off. But, if you can give, you would have my endless thanks and I’d be happy to swim at you anytime.
