Story
This summer I am taking on my second Gower charity walk, this time over a full marathon distance around the very hilly Gower coastline.
It’s hard to believe that our first walk in 2019 took place with my wife Nina and I suspecting that she had breast cancer, which was confirmed soon after. Since then, we have experienced everything that living with cancer can throw at you. After a blissful period of remission, our world was shattered last September when Nina was diagnosed with incurable metastatic breast cancer.
We are incredibly fortunate that Nina is receiving the very latest in immunotherapy cancer treatment from the amazing clinical trials team at St Barts. Thankfully, she is responding really well to treatment and is coping fantastically with a tough regimen.
These incredible advances in cancer care mean patients will keep living longer throughout our lifetimes. If anything, this means that the work of Macmillan and charities like them is even more important. Patients and their families need plenty of practical and psychological help, and they will need it over longer periods.
Unfortunately, Nina won’t be able to do the walk with my dad and I this time, so I’m doing it for both of us and for everyone else trying to focus on living a fulfilling life with cancer in their lives. It can be done!
