Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.

It iswith great pleasure that the FBHVC announce that Drive it Day2022 will continue to support the NSPCCs Childline service along with ‘Ride ItDay’ for our Motorcycle Community.

This will be the second year of partnering with Childlineafter such a successful first year, and raising enough funds to cover the costof running Childline for 24 hours.

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubsintroduced Drive it Day in 2005 with the aim of getting thenations transport heritage out on the roads and seen by the public. Since then, the national celebration of Historic Vehicles has successfully increased publicawareness of the historic vehicle movement whilst bringing a sense of togethernessto the thousands of owners and enthusiasts who attend events and runs up anddown the country. Those events, held by over 500 member organisations and clubsthat make up the Federations membership, are as varied as the vehicles takingpart and often include Drive Outs, Rallies, and meetings at local beauty spotsor historic sites.

As the role of the FBHVC and of the historic movementevolves and we become ever more aware of all our duties to contribute to widersociety, the Federation has been exploring ways to develop National Drive itDay and re-position the event so that, as well as fulfilling its aims to raiseawareness of the historic vehicle movement, we can also use it as anopportunity to contribute to society. We are delighted to introduce Ride It Dayplates for the Motorcycle community who have also been so supportive.

During the past 2 years through the pandemic, the NSPCCsChildline service has become even more significant as a vital lifeline forthose children who feel they have no one else to turn to, holding 19,000counselling sessions a month since lockdown began. Over half of allconversations related to mental and emotional health (including suicidalthoughts and feelings and self-harm), and more children under 11 contacting theservice.

As children adjust to returning to school and the effectsof the pandemic continue to be felt, Childline will continue to be a vitalresource during these times of uncertainty, but they need our help to fundthese vital resources.

It costs just £4 to answer a contact from a child oryoung person reaching out for help, you can make a donation here or hold yourown Drive it Day or Ride It Day  event or activity to raise funds forChildline - and all support will be gratefully received and hugely appreciated.

ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC
