Matthew's Three Races In Four Weeks
Fundraising for Royal College of Psychiatrists
Story
Dear Friend,
Thank you for sponsoring me. As you are probably aware, the football tournament which I was organising to raise money for my charity, Overseas Volunteer Program, unfortunately had to be cancelled. But I will not be beaten. For this reason I am taking matters into my own hands! I am planning to run three half marathons in four weekends, Macclesfield, Henley, then culminating on October 19th in a celebratory lap around the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff.
I know only too well that requests for money come around all too often and for this reason I have decided to put some work in and run three races, as I feel very strongly about this charity. Training has started, and whilst gruelling at times, I am looking forward to the challenge.
The Overseas Volunteer Program provides volunteers from a Medical and Psychiatric background to work and provide supplies in developing countries, where at times there could be less than one doctor for one million people (the average in the UK is one doctor per 15-25,000 population). It is common practice in some countries for patients to walk over 60km to see a doctor.
The Volunteers help these countries by increasing the number of doctors, as well as helping to develop medical and psychiatric services, and working with the local communities to help them sustain these services. The Volunteers will also teach and train local doctors, nurses, and medical students to help them improve their skills, which in turn helps the patients.
Programs are well under way in Africa and Asia, but funding is desperately needed to help other countries. I am hoping to raise £2000 for the charity which will support four volunteers for up to two years each.
I assure you that every penny I raise will go directly to the cause.
