Swimathon 2020 · 27 March 2020 to 31 December 2020 ·

Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are calling on the nation to get down to the pool for Swimathon 2020 - thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge.

Story

I am a forty something mum of two and I have recently rediscovered a love of swimming which I used to do a lot before I had children. My daddy ensured I could swim before I was even toddling and he took me to swimming lessons almost every week no matter what the weather. Being able to swim meant I could do lots of activities on the water including canoeing, kayaking, open water swimming and sea scouts. When I was a teenager my amazing daddy developed cancer and sadly although he was very healthy and active the cancer proved terminal, he was 45 and I was 17. The loss of a parent has affected me my whole life and I still miss him very much. I think he would have been pretty impressed with the amazing job my mum did raising my sister and I and I think he would have absolutely adored his incredible granddaughters, its very sad that he never got the chance to meet them and also that they never got to meet him.

I will be hoping to raise £250, I appreciate every donation and will post regular updates as this will not be an easy challenge to complete!

On the 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading down to over 600 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners. Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you.

Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.

Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
