Durham Students' Union is raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust

Durham University Charity Fashion Show 2022 · 7 September 2021

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

In 2022, Durham University Fashion Show is dedicating proceeds to Teenage Cancer Trust with a specific focus in the North East of England.

Similarly to many other charities, Teenage Cancer Trust has been significantly impacted by the outbreak of COVID-19 and all donations will be instrumental in helping  support young people suffering from cancer. The specialised nursing care and support offered puts the needs of young people first and strives to help those facing  cancer deal with all the challenges accompanying it. With specialist facilities in 28 hospitals in the UK, the aim is to reduce the feeling of isolation and create a home for young people throughout their diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Teenage Cancer Trust also fund youth support co-ordinators and specialist nurses to support young people in these facilities.

#NotOk is a cancer and mental health campaign focusing on the mental health impacts experienced when facing cancer. Specialist psychological support is hugely important to those facing the emotional and physical impacts, yet this support is not always available. Teenage Cancer Trust are looking to change this. The campaign is helping fill in the gaps where young people with cancer are unable to access the mental support needed.

Please help us support this change that is so desperately needed.
